Bishal Dhakal -5

Bishal is a 14-year-old boy diagnosed with a form of bone cancer in his left leg. His ancestral home is in Nuwakot but currently, he lives with his parents in Balaju, Kathmandu. His father works as a taxi driver in Kathmandu, and his mother is a housewife.

Last fall, Bishal experienced a sharp pain in his leg. He and his family were about to travel to their village in Nuwakot for the festival at the time, and ignored the pain hoping it wasn’t a big deal. They celebrated the festivities and returned back to Kathmandu, but the pain in Bishal’s leg did not stop. Instead, his leg started swelling day by day. So, they took him to a local hospital to see what the problem could be. The hospital immediately referred Bishal to Bir Hospital in Kathmandu. By this time, it was dawning upon the family that Bishal’s case was more serious than they had thought. At Bir Hospital, the doctors not only diagnosed Bishal with bone cancer, but also discovered that it was spreading quickly. So, it was urgent to amputate his leg to reduce the effect of the disease, and his left leg was amputated.

At present, Bishal’s mom is his full-time caregiver while his dad is struggling to make ends meet in the family. Currently, he is in and out of the hospital for further treatment for cancer. His therapy process could extend for another few years but his family cannot afford the treatment expenses anymore. That is why we are planning to help ease their financial burden. We want to support Bishal and his family with housing, food and other living expenses until his treatment is complete.
