June 29 in Nepal it is Ashad 15. Ashad 15 is called the Ropayi Day (Crop Planting Day), which is the day that marks the end of crop planting with wishes for high crop production. Most of our Leo’s Kids families are farmers back in their villages so this day is very important for them.
Ashad 15 is also called Dahi Chiura Day when people eat beaten rice with yogurt curd. So, our Leo’s Kids and their families at the Flats are served with Dahi Chiura (beaten rice with yogurt curd) to celebrate this special day.
Dahi chiura carries important nutritional value as it helps to replenish the energy of tired and worn out farmers. As farmers spend all day working in dirt and mud, having dahi chiura gives them a boost of nutrition and energy. It also may help protect the farmer against the germs that might be found in the mud.
The Nepali government has also announced the day as National Paddy Day to launch several programs to encourage farmers to grow more and celebrate the Crop Planting Festival.
We deeply appreciate those of you who are able to partner with us financially to support these precious children and families either with a one-time donation or a monthly donation. This helps ensure our ability to provide ongoing support to these families in their time of crisis.
