Helping cancer patients like Renu overcome their disease

11 year old Renu is diagnosed with Extraosseous Ewing Sarcoma on her left thigh. She is suffering from a rare type of Ewing sarcoma that forms in soft tissue instead of bone.

A 5th grade student, Renu is the 5th child after 4 siblings, aged 18, 22, 25 and 27. She also has an 8 year old younger sibling. Her mother is a housewife and her father works at a construction site. Although the sole breadwinner of the family, her father’s income is not regular and is 20 – 25 thousand Nepali rupees per month on average. Their expenditure per month is about 25 – 30 thousand Nepali rupees. The family is originally from Hetauda -13, Nepal, but now have come to the Kathmandu valley for Renu’s treatment.

Doctors have arranged an 8-10 month treatment plan for Renu at Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital. It includes 14 cycles of neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy, surgery and radiation therapy. So far, Renu has undergone 8 cycles of chemotherapy, the last being on 11th December, 2019. The doctors and the family are planning for a surgery too.

As of November, 2019, the cost of Renu’s treatment had accumulated to approximately 300 thousand Nepali rupees, including chemotherapy and investigations. Already in debt and not in a position to afford treatment, we are helping Renu and her family at this difficult time.
