We are recording this with Kara’s dad, Dr. Bill Miskelly, on Tuesday the day after we laid my mom to rest. Her name was Arlene Miskelly, and as you may have read in our earlier post, she was not only Leo’s wonderful grandmother, but she was also one of our original board members for this foundation. She faithfully prayed for each of our Leo’s Kids, celebrated their improvements, and mourned with us as we received news of their devastating losses. My dad is honoring her memory by designating this foundation to receive memorials in her honor, and we are grateful to each one who has chosen to show their love for her in this way.
Today Sunil spoke with our newest Leo’s Kid – Ikshahang Yonghang Limbu, a 12 year old boy with brain cancer. He is already staying in our Leo’s Kids Flats and we will introduce you to Iksha and his father in a separate post soon.
We have encouraging updates on some of our Leo’s Kids:
Bipana, our Tik Tok girl, has been going through some final tests as she waits for her release and things are looking optimistic for her continued improvement.
Saraswoti had her last treatment on Monday and once her doctors determine she is ready, she will be released to her home with ongoing maintenance and check ups. Sunil talked to Saraswoti’s father who expressed how thankful he is to Team Leo’s Kids for supporting them during this time of crisis. When we first contacted them, he and Saraswoti had given up hope because they could see no way forward. Now you have provided them with hope for a future.
Ishwor, one of our first two Leo’s Kids, has been receiving treatment, and he seems to be continuing his progress in a positive direction.
Now for the harder updates:
As you may have read about earlier, our sweet Renu has been released to her home with pain medication and her family is looking after her to keep her as comfortable as possible.
We just learned Monday that Amar’s cancer is no longer considered curable and we will give a lengthier update in a separate post.
As we have been told, even though hospitals are not regularly accepting new cancer patients, we are still looking for families of children with cancer who need help with housing and food to help alleviate these costs for the families especially during this global pandemic when financial and other resources may be harder to come by.
We are not getting updates on potential new Leo’s Kids quite as frequently during the lockdown as we had earlier since the hospital does not keep the same schedule as before.
Sunil spoke with Dr. Rachana today to get the update on Amar and she has continued to be very helpful in keeping us informed of potential new Leo’s Kids.
As always, please share our foundation with friends and family who would be interested in being a part of encouraging and supporting these wonderful children and their families. Because of your faithful generosity, we are able to show these families that they matter and they are not alone in this crisis.
