Last month, Sunil and Kara, along with their children James and Annika, had the privilege of visiting Sunil’s friend and classmate Dr. Shailendra Karmacharya at Prasuti Griha.
This well-run government hospital, located in Kathmandu, is dedicated to providing free, comprehensive maternity care to pregnant mothers and infants.
It’s especially meaningful for us as this hospital has provided care to the moms of our Leo’s Kids who were also expectant mothers, including assisting Mohini Kurmi’s mother a couple years ago during the birth of her daughter Maya. We are thrilled to see firsthand the amazing work being done at Prasuti Griha and to recognize the impact it has on the community.
Prasuti Griha is Nepal’s primary maternity and infant care hospital, handling the most complex cases from across the nation. With services ranging from prenatal care to labor and delivery, this facility ensures every mother and baby receives top-tier medical attention. Key features include:
• – Free deliveries, including transportation back home home following delivery
• – Tertiary center equipped for C-sections and a wide array of other medical needs
• – Facilities like MICU, NICU, human milk bank, and kangaroo care to ensure the health and well-being of every infant
• – Daily operations that handle 80-100 deliveries, with prenatal care accommodating 400-500 women
• – Expert lactation consultants and midwives who oversee low-risk deliveries
• – A robust system that provides a chain of care, ensuring that no patient needs to be referred elsewhere
• – Helicopter rescue for mothers in remote areas who need emergency transport to Kathmandu
Each day, the staff at Prasuti Griha meticulously debriefs to review any complications, continuously striving to provide the best care possible. 💕
